Do guys normally do this? What should I do?

So a while ago this guy and I were hanging out a lot and we went on two dates so not very much, but we were getting pretty close, or at least for me, we were pretty cuddly when we sat down and we held hands and teased each other a lot, so it was getting obvious that we were starting to like each other and after the second date he talked about wanting to be more serious and I told him I wasn't ready for a relationship yet but we were both in college my first year but his last year so we both knew he was going home at the end of the semester and his hometown is really far away from mine and college so I talked to him about it and asked if he wanted to keep going on dates/hanging out and he said absolutely and that he really liked me, but when the end of the semester came and he went home, he started texting me less and less, I'm not going to be fussy and demand texts or whatever but before we texted pretty often but now I'm usually the one to text first and sometimes he doesn't even text back. I'm not trying to be dramatic, I'm not that upset, but we used to stay up all night talking and now we don't talk much at all. It just makes me kind of wonder if we're losing interest in each other. I've thought about asking him to hang out but I would feel bad making him drive all that way, especially since I don't have my driver's license yet(I know that's weird cause I'm 18 but don't ask.). I just don't know if he's losing interest or if we even should keep dating or how to bring that stuff up. I don't have much experience with dating at all, so I'm not good at talking about this kind of stuff...
