What effect did the implant have on your period,

I've decided to get the contraceptive implant and I'm a bit worried about its effect on my period. I had very heavy painful periods before I went on the pill, and I'm worried about the possibility that the implant will make things worse. Also, how are the other side effects? I get sick and headachy on the pill.
