Can you get a tan while still protecting your skin by wearing sunscreen when you lay out?

I'm very pale and I want to get some color, but I don't want to get skin cancer, age spots, wrinkles, etc... Can I put sunscreen on before I lay out and still get a tan, or will it make it so I can't tan?

A tan is evidence of skin damage, it's your skin's attempt to protect itself from more damage. There's no such thing as a healthy or safe tan.

Of course.... you get sun on a cloudy day. You get sun when it snows... sunscreen only adds a layer of protection but you're still taking in sun. If you're trying to tan then you're damaging your skin no matter what.

I am extremely fair skinned, if I try to tan I burn and go back to being pale as before. I am obsessed with spray tanning. Looks natural, lasts 7-10 days depending on how well you use lotion after. Call around to places, the place I go does custom sprays for $10. If you are uncomfortable with being semi naked in front of someone, try mystic or versa spray tan booths. Again call around, before I moved I had unlimited Mystics for $30 a month. I'm sure down the road they will come out and say spray tanning is bad for your lungs or something lol but until then, I'm all about it!

I am very pale, blonde and blue. I don't tan....ever. I burn no matter what spf i wear, and now the dr thinks I might have skin cancer. Please protect urself from the sun. Tan skin isn't worth it

I never use sunblock but my skin is not damaged from the Sun I heard just use the cooking coconut oil for going outside cuz you dont know whats in sunblock
