Crying in Sleep

Monica

For the first time on Tuesday my 5 month old was sleeping and she started to cry pretty hard but when I went to check up on her, her eyes were completely closed and after about a minute she stopped and stayed asleep but last night (would be considered Friday) she woke up at midnight again and this time she was full on screaming. My LO is naturally a crier so her cries doesn’t bother me anymore but last night was very scary. The scream she was doing was as if an adult was being stabbed multiple times. Both my husband and I froze. We both didn’t know what to do. We can tell from the monitor she was asleep because her eyes were closed but she was throwing her body all over the crib. She finally stopped after 2 minutes (what felt like eternity) and continued sleeping. Does anyone know what this means and how to stop it? Should I be picking her up when this happens?

Just a few things, this week she didn’t have any new stimulation. She only started the tiniest taste of sweet potato but that was on Wednesday (so it wouldn’t explain Tuesday’s episode). She’s not sick. She doesn’t have any ear infection. She wasn’t sweating or cold. She’s not teething either. During the day she’s her normal self.
