I had an elective induction at 39+5 and it was nothing like I expected but an amazing experience!!!!

I went in at 7 pm on Thursday the 21st to get the Foley bulb inserted, it was so uncomfortable and instantly started contractions up for me! When I reached 4 cm, the Foley bulb should fall out. The doctor told me to go home and let it do it’s magic (I was only 1 cm when they inserted it) and come back at 7 am to start pitocin. The contractions were so bad all night I only slept an hour and a half before returning to the hospital the next morning. The Foley bulb still hadn’t fallen out within the 12 hours like I read it should so I was feeling discouraged thinking this is gonna be such a long labor! (It was)

Well I got into my room at 7 am and the nurse came in to check on my Foley bulb, she tugged on it a little and it came right out! Then the doctor checked my cervix and said I was 5 cm and 50% effaced, baby at a -2 position. 5 CM!!! I was so relieved thinking that I was halfway there.

They started the pitocin on me and checked me every hour and after about 4 hours (around one pm) I was 7 cm and soft and baby was lower. They decided to break my waters and that’s when things got so intense. I was aiming for an epidural free birth but around 5 pm the pitocin was so strong and I was so tired and in so much pain I just gave in. After that I was finally able to get some sleep! I was stuck at 8 cm for about 10 hours until things started picking up the next morning (Feb 23) they checked me at 5 am and I was FINALLY 10 cm and baby was at +2 and so I started laboring down to prepare for pushing.

I was already so determined to get him out so I “practice pushed” for 20 min and then I was ready to get down to business. We turned on some pump up music (my doctor was dancing while watching me push 😂😂) and we got a mirror out because I wanted to watch. After another 45 min of pushing my beautiful boy was born and he had so much hair!!!!! He’s a week old now and I couldn’t be more in love and obsessed with him. His dimples kill me!!!!!
