Why A Pregnancy Test?

I went to the doctor bc I'm going to be analyzed/diagnosed with something using a test that uses some type of radiation. I told her I was not sexually active when asked. She then asked me if I'm pregnant. I said no (not sexually active). Today I got a call from a nurse to help me choose an appt date. She asked me if I'm pregnant. I said no. She said I was going to have to take a pregnant test at my appointment. Wth! Anyone know why?

Liability. As someone having working in the health industry and will be working in the medical engineering industry, liability is a HUGE thing.

If only people wouldn't be so adamant about suing, you know?

Because there are a lot of risks with radiation and people lie. I had minor surgery in December and had to take a pregnancy test even though I told them I was on birth control pills, having my withdrawal bleeding at the time, & hadn't had sex in a few months.

It's to cover their own butt. I had to take a pregnancy test at 10 because I was cramping. The nurses were actually pretty rude about it. But I took the test and yay!! Wasn't pregnant. That test result was from a 10 yr old virgin. So lame but I guess they find pregnant people who swear they are not having sex..

They basically have to, so they save their butt and job! A lot of people lie with these things, and always have to be safe!

Some people don't think they are pregnant and some people say they aren't sexually active cause they are embarised about it and what not so with my type of radiation treatment they have to confirm it because it will most likely kill a fetus it's just protocol. But good luck

Doctors just always want to be sure. Also, whenever radiation is a factor, the doctor isn't allowed to do it cuz the radiation could harm the baby. Even tho u aren't sexually active, the Dr just has to rule it out to be on the safe side
