Awkwardness after asking this guy out?

So basically this guy and I have been friendly since freshman year (I’m a junior) and this year it turned into flirting, like a lot. At least that’s what me and literally everyone else around us told me. After weeks of freaking out about it, I texted him one night and asked him out. Now, keep in mind we are both fairly awkward. He did say yes, but then at school for the next 2 days he wouldn’t even look at me, much less talk to me. So I knew I fucked up. I talked to him later that day and apologized for making him uncomfortable or a hung like that and I told him that I didn’t want thins to be weird and he agreed. He then said that he’s “really stressed and confused right now” and he doesn’t want me to take that to mean he “doesn’t like” me or that he wants to keep me “from seeing other people”. So was this basically his hella awkward way of saying no or do you think there still could be a possibility of us dating? Another note, I’m bi and I haven’t dated a guy before so I’m not used to this complicated mess. Thanks if you read this, I just really need a perspective from someone who’s not a friend.
