Taking animal babies away from their mother

I have read articles stating that a mother dog will get depressed after her puppies are adopted by other families. I just think its sad that we take away her babies for our own wants. Yes giving these animals a loving home is often better than letting them live in the wild, but it just feels cruel to take away the babies. I know that the puppies get to stay with their mother for 6weeks. Not just with puppies, this goes out for all baby animals taken from their mothers. Does anyone else feel this way? Animals should be allowed go stay together and not seperated unless they choose to go separate ways from their families?
