Is cloth diapering worth it?

I’m a soon to be mom and I’m thinking of cloth diapering, however, I’m just not so sure about washing pee and poop in my washer. Does it stay in the washer and cause your clothes to stink? And it honestly seems like a lot of work. What are the pros and cons? Is it really that much cheaper? Thank you!

no, just like when you wash kitchen rags or dirty clothes, the food and dirt doesn't stay in the wash and get your other clothes dirty. you will have to figure out what routine is best with your machine but typically you just need to do a quick wash with cold water and then a heavy duty wash with hot. 
extra work: eh. it depends on you. It's basically just putting them in the wash and switching to the dryer and, if I have time, folding them, but it doesn't hurt them at all to not be folded so when I don't have time to fold I'll just go pick what I need from the pile and move on. 
cost: absolutely, even including the extra cost of detergent and water. especially if you plan on having multiple children. a quick Google search will bring up hundreds of things like this that simply break it down in a picture and there are dozens of blogs that really go into detail and show you step by step of their calculating the costs and they all show the same result, cloth is cheaper (usually by thousands!).
some additional pros: •less blowouts. as long as you have a proper fit, cloth diapers rarely ever have blowouts. I've been using cloth on my son for almost 2 years now and we've had less than a dozen blowouts in his cloth. when it has happened, it's been when he's had really bad diarrhea so it was super watery. •less diaper rashes. babies who aren't exposed to all the nasty chemicals that are used in disposable diapers don't get diaper rashes anywhere near as often as those who are. case in point, the only rash my son has ever had is yeast - so we've never dealt with a diaper rash ever. •no chemicals. seriously, go look into what disposable diapers are made of. it's disgusting what is allowed to be used in children's products. •potty training. cloth diapered kids have been shown to potty train sooner and more quickly. •cute 🤗 we have diapers with chickens, stars, plaid, pineapples, geometric patterns... so many to choose from!

I have been cloth diapering my daughter for 9 months and I love it. She is on solids so her is starting to become more firm. When I need to I just put the solids in the toilet. I have not had a problem with my wash. It may take some trial and error to find a detergent that works best for you. I use a combo of washing soda, borax, and an oxygen booster. I do so much laundry any ways that one more load every couple of days doesn’t phase me. It takes about 10 minutes of hands on work for me to do a load of diapers. I use the Alva baby cloth diapers. I started with those because I was skeptical about cloth diapering and they are relatively inexpensive on amazon. I love them. As for price it does save a ton if you primarily cloth diaper, I just use disposables when we are camping or don’t have access to a washer and dryer.
