Doula, Lamaze?? What are you all doing to prep for labor?

I'm 17 weeks and I'm thinking about hiring a doula (birthing coach/partner) I'm planning on having an epidural so do I need a doula or Lamaze classes??

I had an epidural with my firstborn at 6 or 7 cm. my ob office knew it was a possibility that I'd  want one but I wasn't sure till I was in labor for a while. I didn't do anything to prepare for labor, and I don't plan on doing anything to plan for this one lol...just making sure I have a bag ready and the car seat installed. All births are different and it's okay to plan, but most of the time those plans change. I don't think any amount of breathing tips/practice can prepare you to have a baby, and a doula is just an added person in the room who I don't want to deal with. But that's just me and my opinion 😁

I was thinking of hiring a doula. They are there to make sure your birth wishes and labor plans are followed as much as possible and to assist you and your partner during the labor. I just can't afford to pay the price for a doula in my area.

My husband and I are taking a birthing class at the hospital that we will deliver at as well as taking a tour of the labor and deliver floor my husband is also reading a book about becoming a dad

We took Bradley classes and I read a lot before my first baby and it was so helpful!! Recommend the Bradley books ("Husband-Coached Childbirth" and "Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way") and Ina May Gaskin's books are so empowering.
