pregnancy plan? FTM !

when did your doctor start asking you what you wanted for your pregnancy I'm currently 28 weeks and haven't been asked what I wanted. I want to make sure I have skin to skin and delayed clamping on imblical cord should I bring this up on my next appointment or is it still to early? ftm!

My dr never asked. The hospital policy is all babies are immediately placed skin to skin on Mom unless there is an urgent health issue for mother or baby. Also dads are encouraged to skin to skin as well while in the hospital. The hospital policy is also delayed cord clamping unless you notify the hospital in advance that you do not want that

My dr gave me a printout at 28 weeks and told me to take my time filling it out. Since then she hasn’t asked. But I thought I was in labor last week and they asked me some questions at check in. I did take childbirth classes at the hospital and they said just tell them when you get there, or have it typed out, or have a form, it doesn’t have to be anything formal.

Not until the VERRRYYYY end. Like possibly your 38/39 week appointment unless you start showing signs if labor earlier. You could also just bring it up to him/her.

I literally asked her what she thinks about birth plans. And then she told me whatever I wanted she would do, as long as my health or the baby’s health was not compromised.

My doctor gave us a printout of a birth plan to fill out and we got it at our first appointment and I was 6 weeks. She hasn’t said anything about it since then, we’re just supposed to bring it to the hospital with us. In all honesty things like instant skin to skin and what not isn’t a priority in the doctors head especially weeks before labor and she has many patients to keep up with, and priority right now is making sure your pregnancy is going well at every appointment. Have you gone to a birthing class that your hospital offers? That’s were the majority of our information about birth came. But if anything I would just find a birth plan to fill out and take with you.

My OBGYN doesn't ask. The hospital will ask a few questions at the pre-registration (around 36 weeks), but if you want something, just have a print out of your birth plan to give to your doctor, the hospital at registration, and one to keep in your room during delivery. Everyone followed mine well, and were very encouraging. :)
