Strep b carrier??!!

Hello

My midwife asked if I was a strep b carrier - I said no as I have never been told.

When she told me what it was - some kind of bacteria in the vagina and having to take antibiotics through labour it frightened the life out of me.

Has anyone had experience of this? And if you have it can it harm your child?

Also she told me if it wasn't confirmed before there is no point doing the test during pregnancy as it is inaccurate.

I tested positive for strep b. U just get an antibiotic iv that's it. I actually had to have a c-section following 3 failed inductions 😁.

Strep B is just a bacteria that is harmless to adults. If untreated it can be harmful to babies though. They just give you an IV drip when you deliver with antibiotics. You do not need a csection because of it and with antibiotics it won't harm your baby. It's honestly no big deal. If you don't have other complications you will be able to deliver naturally.

Are you in the UK? They don't test for it as standard here, but I was advised to get a private test at around 36 weeks as it can change throughout pregnancy. It is accurate (just may not be by delivery day) and it can be very dangerous to baby if not identified.
