HELP PROM! DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO NEED ADVICE!!

Im a junior and there is only a senior prom at our school. Apparently this guy that Im friends with likes me and hes planning on asking me to prom. Which seems like an awesome thing, Im not complaining that somebody likes me enough to wanna ask me but I really don't like him like that. Id be happy to go with him as his date as friend, but as of yet Im not attracted to him in that way. I know that prom would be a really cool experience especially going a year in advance too and I know Id have fun with him but I just don't like him in that way. But on top of all of this, one of his friends is also my friend and he also likes me and there is this competition between them about it and my other friend (who I don't know if he will ask me) is purposefully making it so that his friend can have me basically, which I don't want happening because people will just end up upset. This seems like such a lowly problem but Im worried that this guy will do like whole proposal or something and then I would be like "yeah no, I won't go with you" and I can't stand to see people upset. PLEASE ADVICE ON WHAT I SHOULD SAY! WHAT I SHOULD DO?!!! I REALLY NEED SOME HELP!!!!
