Hey everyone what age do you think is to old to be a sperm donor.

Our donor was 45 and I’m now pregnant with our baby girl. He was in extremely good health and he will be our donor again when my wife tries for our second baby.

It depends on what you are looking for. 
While most men can produce sperm for their entire lives, once men get over 40, there is more of a risk of their sperm creating a child with genetic issues (even when the bio mom is younger). Several somewhat recent studies have shown that the risk of autism and psych disorders are higher in children fathered by men over 40. This doesn’t mean that if your sperm donor is older that you will definitely have a child with autism or a psych disorder, just that the risk is higher. Just like the risk of Down syndrome is higher for women carrying a child over 40, plenty of women have babies without Down syndrome over 40.
Also, for us when we were choosing a donor we envisioned our children having some sort of relationship with him one day. When our daughter is 18 (she’s 3 now), she may want to get to know him. We wanted someone who would be (potentially) around 18-20 years after our child was born, so we chose a donor in his early 30s.

We men actually produce fresh sperm every 24 hours until they die unless they have some medical issues that will prevent this. With that said, as long as the old man is healthy (no cancer and such) his sperm is usable until he dies. However, if I came across a 70yo man, and all seemed well....I’d ask for younger photos of himself (preferably in his prime) to get a better idea of the level of handsome-ness/genes that I am working with. I would also only allow AI to prevent any heart attacks and because...well let’s face it, I don’t find old men attractive enough to sleep with. IJS!
