Ways to tell: sperm VS. EWCM

I have found some ways (by doing research) to test if what you're seeing when you check your CM is either sperm or EWCM. Some women have obvious egg white cervical mucous and other women not so much. If you are the latter, don't fret. This is more common than you think. Either way these steps can help you identify when you're most fertile so you can get to BD right away!

1. Toilet paper test - Sperm will soak into toilet paper, EWCM will glob up and sit on top of the toilet paper.

2. Water test - Sperm is water soluble so it will dissolve in water.. EWCM on the other hand will glob up in the water either in toilet or sink. To check in sink, fill sink and dip specimen into the water or you can check in toilet. Go ahead, take a peek!

3. The final and most obvious and easiest sign is that sperm cannot stretch much without breaking. EWCM is clearer and thicker than sperm. Sperm tends to range from cloudy in color to clear. Picture the liquid part of an egg. This is why it is called EWCM. It is also easily stretched from 1-10 inches without breaking. Sperm tends to absorb or leak out immediately after sex. Don't worry though, sperm are good swimmers and get to where they need to go within seconds of ejaculation.

Generally it is best to BD every other day during your fertile window and on the day of ovulation. When you notice watery CM or EWCM this is a helpful sign along with measuring your bbt before you get out of bed to use bathroom every morning. If you are measuring your LH with OPKs and you get a positive/peak result that means you should ovulate within 12-36 hours and it is best to BD that day and three days after. Anytime you identify EWCM it is important to BD right away. I hope these tips help to decipher between that age old question of the difference between sperm and EWCM and to help you ladies in waiting a chance conceive quicker. Happy Ovulating! Baby dust to everyone.
