Continuous Birth Control

I recently started taking continous to avoid a period whiletravelling. After 2 months on it, I started to breakthrough bleed. My doc suggested I take a 5 day break, which I am currently on day 4 of. The bleeding has become heavier. I am wondering if I should continue with continuous or go back to having a regular period. Anyone have any experience with this?
