How long before positive?

how long did it take some of you to have a positive pregnancy test? I'm 3 days late (and am never late). no positive test, but I'm crazy irritable, insanely tired, and my boobs are going to explode, they are so sensitive.... thoughts?

update - not pregnant. got my period this afternoon. not gonna lie, I got my hopes up this time because I'm never late, and don't usually have pre menstrual symptoms like this.
