What do you think teachers SHOULD get paid?

Keep in mind this is regardless of economics, just what their job is worth. Should it change depending on what kind of teacher (preschool, high school, special ed, music, etc)? My argument is that they should get paid more than what they do currently. I believe they are just as important as doctors and scientists. They are the people who help shape their minds. I was just curious on what everyone thinks!

Most of my teachers did not care about their students doing well. I think they should get more if they put more pride in their work, but not if they let the whole class fail because they want to watch basketball instead of answer your questions which really happened at my high school.

You guys do realize that most teachers salaries actually range from 20k-35k... 35k-40k is reserved for the teachers who stick out the lower salaries for 10+ years or so.

Currently teaching positions in the US have a 99% acceptance rate. I think the salary NEEDS to go up, but we also need to be more selective with the people watching our children eight hours a day

I’m a reading intervention teacher and I can assure you- teaching is not a ‘fluff off’ kind of job. We have to be ON 5 days a week. We can’t just choose to be quiet or not speak to anyone if we’re having a bad day. If you have a family, you spend all day with children and come home to your own. Not to mention, when I come home from work, I am generally grading, lesson planning, etc. We also DO work in the summer to prepare for the following school year. With all that being said, I really do LOVE my job. But, we absolutely need and deserve those summers off!

i think teachers deserve way more than $30-40k usd. it doesnt get you all that much, particularly where i live. i dont do nearly as much as a teacher does and they deserve way more than the life i live making this much. cost of living is expensive and i cant afford a place without my boyfriend. where i live, $50k isnt even considered a living wage. teachers should be making minimum a living wage but really deserve more than just that.

I think it should depend city/state wise. They definitely should get a better pay, especially if they live in big cities where the cost of living is extremely high

I'm not sure what they get paid in the US but in NZ it's pretty good. like obviously I think they deserve more. but it's not pittance either

I think EAs should get paid way more than they do. At least as much as teachers.

I disagree 40k and having to pay for child care, food, taxes, and health care(  which doesn't include :coinsurance, deductibles, copayments, and prescriptions) teachers are better off getting government assistance and working at Walmart.
