Traveling while prego

Talking to my doc tomorrow, but just wanted to hear from you all. Every year, my boyfriend and I return to the town we are from on Memorial Day - it is nearly 3 hours away. We plan a cookout for his family. They have lost a lot of loved ones, including my boyfriend's mother. We have done this for 9 years. It's very important to him - especially this year because he is having a baby. Our baby will never know his paternal grandmother. My boyfriend wants to keep the tradition alive. He worked hard to create it and knows if he doesn't do the leg work the gathering won't happen. He also fears skipping a year will derail the tradition and it will just fall apart.

I'll be 38 weeks pregnant. I don't want him to miss out on this, and I don't want him to leave me. I'm afraid I'll go into labor. What do I do?
