Which pump should I get?

Question

These choices are based on what my insurance covers for me. I just can’t decide if I want/need to spend extra money when I can get one that’s good for free. Help!

I got the medela my first go around and this time I'm getting the spectra. I've heard many women respond to it better and it's a closed system which is a plus.

No need to spend extra money in my opinion. I use the Medela punp in style. I nurse while at home but have been pumping at work for 5 months now and this pump works perfectly fine.

Get the free one. 
Spend your extra money on quality breast milk storage bags and a hands free breast pump bra (I use to pump on the way to and from work). 
Also a deep chest freezer will let you keep stored breast milk for 12 mo vs a regular freezer last only 6mo. 
Try to get all air out of your breast milk bags and freeze flat for better storage.

I read a post a few months ago where a poster who had both said Medela has better customer service and it's easier to buy replacement parts. That's what swayed my choice towards medela

I always pumped at home (in addition to nursing ) so my husband could give bottles at night, then pumped 3x at work for 9 months with my in style. I wouldn’t change a thing.
I’ll be honest though.... pumping isn’t “fun” and when people get over excited about a pump, I don’t get it. The in style works well and does its job. I stopped pumping 2 months before I ran out of milk I was able to get so much. If its free, go for it! The parts are super easy to get on amazon (maymom is practically the same for cheaper). I did splurge and get the bag that comes with it just because I needed to take it to work everyday and I’m really glad I got that.

I got the medela through insurance last time. but saw freemie that you could hook up to the medela, they are like 50 dollars for the attachments. So worth every penny, made pumping so much easier, and I was able to feed my daughter until her first birthday, she never had formula, and I work full time as a nurse.

I used the pump in style and liked it. I didn’t see any need for the free style - walking around while pumping wasn’t that appealing. First, I felt like it should be as relaxing as possible to get the best production, just like nursing. Second, I worried that if I was bending over doing laundry or whatever the milk would leak (which can happen).

I have both the medela and spectra.  I love my spectra.  If the spectra dies, I will purchase another one before using my medela.

Get the free pump, see how you like it and go from there. For me, and this is just my experience-I got the free medela and over time it just got too rough for me. So I got a Spectra S2 which was much gentler but still as effective and I liked it a lot better.
