I'm 8 DPO as well and it is killing me not to test, but I know it's too early... I think I'm going to test on Friday and then again on Sunday!

So, you can start producing HCG as soon as 6DPO, but! 
Best time to test, to avoid false negatives and anxiety, is when your period is supposed to be due but didn't show up. Try relax until then!
