DANGEROUS FEVER??? Help!!!!!

Kaleigh

Okay parents/nurses/doctors out there... I am at my wits end and need a second opinion. Luka has been sick for 13 days. It started with fever, throwing up, and diarrhea that lasted for 8 days. (A little long for my liking, but we were told it was rota virus and we would have to let it run it’s course. Luka was vaccinated for rota virus, but we were told that’s what it was.) After 8 days the diarrhea and throwing up stopped, but he woke up on the 9th day with a fever, very barky cough, a runny nose, and you could hear he was struggling to breathe. It gets worse at night. He hasn’t slept at night since Sunday at all (he will cry until 2-3 am, and be up every 20 min after that), his fever will not go away even though we are continually rotating Advil and Tylenol, and he is refusing to eat or drink. Now, he is barely peeing. We went to emerg, and waited 7 hours to be seen although I expressed my concerns with his fever that has been on and off for the past 13 days, and the fact that he had peed once in 24 hours, I think he’s dehydrated. We were seen for about 2 minutes, and the doctor prescribed antibiotics. His fever is still high, he won’t eat or drink (I have tried spooning pedialyte to him, I’ve tried giving it with a syringe, I’ve tried pedialyte popsicles, etc.) and he isn’t sleeping. I don’t know what else I can do, and why his fever isn’t breaking. Help! Thoughts? Is it normal for a fever to last in a 1 year old for 13 days?
