Do you think it's okay to put kids in front of technology when they won't leave you alone or throw a fit??

I have a hard time with this, my nephew is ALWAYS on a phone or an iPad. It drives me crazy, I just want him to go outside. But he's always asking to be on the iPad or the Xbox or on someone's phone. It's to the point where my husband and I don't even want our kids on any type of technology. But what am I going to do when I need them to leave me alone? I don't want them to depend on technology to keep them occupied. My husband and I are country people and ride horses and all that, so I don't think it'll be too big of a problem. But I don't want it to be a problem at all.

No, that's teaching them they'll be rewarded with TV or games for misbehaving.

I say it should be a last resort but sometimes it is necessary to get through the day and not something you should feel guilty about. I'm a first time mom but lots of child care experience and kept my 2 yr old nephew this weekend; washing dishes or loading the washer is more than enough time for toddlers to get in serious trouble so if some television in moderation is helpful go for it. It is a bummer to see kids in public occupied with an iPad or phone though, but I've also worked with special needs kids who need that distraction bc they just don't have the coping skills yet to deal with crowds and noises, etc so I try not to judge.

I disagreed, however my toddler does watch educational cartoons in the morning while I cook breakfast and get ready for the day. I wouldn't say it's necessarily me putting him in front of the tv because he's annoying me tho lol

It's not the best thing but I used to babysit large families, usually ranging from 4-6 kids, and there were days they were fighting with each other or were so hyper. It was draining and when all I wanted was some peace, I was so very grateful for television those days...lol. Other than that though, I don't think sticking an iPad in front of them when they cry is a good idea. They'll learn to throw fits until an iPad or phone is given to them. Plus they'll learn it gets whipped out quicker in public, which will most likely lead to more public meltdowns. Not okay.
