Lotion?

Is there an age when it becomes ok to use unscented baby lotion or is that a no no forever? My twins will be 17 weeks tomorrow & have some patches of dry skin but the NICU told us absolutely no lotion when they were discharged at 10 days old. Ever since then I’ve been afraid to use it...it’s Dove unscented baby lotion? Does anyone put lotion on their baby?

my baby has eczema and we use Cetaphil. it works great

Thank you guys so much! Our NICU discharge was super intense & I’m just now realizing they were telling me how to take care of a NICU baby when I was discharged...except that’s not what they were once we got them home.🤷‍♀️ the nurse said their skin produces enough oil to moisturize & if you use lotion, the natural oil process will stop? I feel so stupid now lol but they really scared us...as we were walking out to the car to go home, the nurse was like “check to make sure they’re breathing every 5 minutes, take their temp every 3 hours, never use lotion & never let them sleep together because one or both could die.” Verbatim. Sooooo I’m about to lather up these 2 ashy munchkins...thank you all for the advice!

I use the aveno baby lotion for eczema. It's unscented and our pediatrician recommended it.

I was just at the peds yesterday for our four month checkup. My baby has always had dry skin but lately it has gotten worse, my ped told me to keep putting lotion on her as often as we wanted. So I think it’s perfectly fine!

Hmmm, I’ve never heard this! I had a NICU baby with my first, and I used lotion on him with every single bath except the first couple where we used aquafor. With our second babe, he has used unscented lotion every single bath. Currently using unscented cetaphil eczema bath wash and lotion.

We’ve been using setaphil on my baby since 2 mo at the suggestion of our pediatrician. She had really dry patchy skin and it has done wonders.

I was told not to use lotion until after my baby’s umbilical cord fell off and she had a normal bath. Now I use Aveeno lotion on her after each bath.

...I use unscented baby lotion all the time in my twins! They have no issue with it but werent in NICU...you could try coconut oil too! If you want to avoid lotion
