What do you use use to layer your lasagna?

I'm making lasagna, and did meat sauce/noodles/ricotta mixture/ mozzarella for each layer, but ive heard some people use cottage cheese. Would love thoughts or tips on how you make the perfect lasagna! I do not use a bechemel sauce, I do a traditional red sauce with pork and beef.

I feel my family would slap me if I ever made it with cottage cheese. it's always been ricotta, mozzarella (the kind that are in balls instead of the block kind), parmesian (actual fresh, not pre grated), romano, eggs, oregano, parsley, basil, and salt for the ricotta mixture layer. my aunt was so serious about it that it had to be herbs from her own garden and would only go to specialty cheese stores for the cheeses haha.

So to give you the opinion of my Italian very angry best friend it’s Béchamel sauce, meat sauce, noodles, mozzarella and Parmesan only on top 😂

Cottage cheese is too liquidy for me. I do ricotta and for a 'white' vegetable lasagna I do bechamel

I use ricotta, mozzarella, cottage cheese AND cream cheese lol. Don't judge, it's delicious! I also like onion, mushroom and beef. Mmm damn now I want lasagna

My husbands family uses ricotta but also a bit of cream cheese. I’m not a big ricotta fan, but cottage cheese is way worse to me texture wise and I just wouldn’t be able to eat it that way lol.
