Indoor cat: good life? 🐈

Question

We’d like to adopt a cat, but live beside a railway line. We have a large, sunny home. We’d provide scratching post, tunnel, other toys, nice food, lots of cuddles of course.
Would it be a fair & happy life for a cat to live indoors and not roam (for it’s safety)? Or are cats smart enough to work out to avoid exploring on the railway line?
We do have a front & back garden.

Indoor is safer for both the cat and the wildlife in the area.
I do take my kitties into the garden (supervised) and they have no interest in the fences. They just roll on the grass for half an hour then come in. 
I definitely wouldn’t leave them outside unsupervised or at night. My cats are my babies.

Both really. Cats are very quick, agile, and have pretty good street smarts. At least mine always have. But my cat now is an indoor cat and he’s a very happy cat.

Mine only lives inside because she is a secret kitty. Other wise I would let her be both.

If you have your cat indoors,  it's a safe and healthy cat. You don't have to worry about him or her getting hit by a car or any animal attacking your cat.Or your cat getting sick from diseases.I have my cat indoors to she grew up inside my home. She was four months when I adopted her now she turned 23 cat years and 2 human years old on Monday. I think indoor cats are more likely to live longer and be healthy too.

There was a study awhile back. Indoor cats have perfectly happy lives. They are safer. They live longer.

I prefer having indoor cats. My mom’s cats go outside and they have so many issues with them like one got killed by an animal, one decided he liked the neighbor better and left forever, and another is allergic to most flea medicines so they have to pay for special stuff so he doesn’t get fleas. My own cats are life-long indoor cats and we haven’t had any issues, they have plenty of toys and plenty of space to run around and they are very happy cats.

I’ve had indoor and outdoor cats, my current one is both. She’s happy to be inside with us, but also loves being in our backyard. She never strays and is chipped and break away collared, cats are so smart. She comes to the door and lets me know she would like in please and goes to the same door to be let out. Never pees inside as she prefers to do her business outside.

I also live by a railroad, and out of the city. We have eagles, coyotes, bears, cougars, raccoons, etc. we have 2 outside only cats. Both happy and alive and totally fine. They are also friendly. Cats are smart.
