Yes, i'd say it's tacky. People aren't required to buy you presents at all, but to ask them to do so twice for the same life event just sounds incredibly greedy to me.

I don't understand the people who say registries for weddings or baby showers are tacky.... However, a registry for an engagement party.... tacky. An engagement party isn't supposed to be about gifts, it's about being surrounded by your friends and family to celebrate WITH you.

I had an engagement party and did not do a registry, ppl however did still give little gifts and when I have a friend get engaged I usually do a card and champagne. Do not expect or ask though.

yes. people are having parties for literally every little thing. usually the engagment party is close family but my cousins had one for the whole family on both sides, we pretty much saw most of the wedding guests. a card maybe but we felt obligated to get something. the shower is where the presents are. and a card at the wedding
