Help please? should I worry?

Question

So my OB thought I was further along than i was and did the downs syndrome blood test at 15 weeks when he thought I was 17. The test came back positive but I'm taking another today. Should I be scared? This is my 1st pregnancy and I am 20 years old. any advice?

For every “positive” testing for Down syndrome only 1 out of the 200 women told will actually have a baby with downs. It is NOT a diagnosis. Just an indicator it COULD be. But also, all they look for is “elevated” levels of such and such in your blood stream. The levels that are “elevated” could be very normal for your body and pregnancy. The only reason to go forward with other tests is if you would terminate. If you wouldn’t, there’s no reason to know.

Just breathe! It will all be okay. You have to make a choice. If your baby has markers for downs, will you do an amniocentesis? Which can be dangerous. 
If the amino comes back positive, would you terminate? These are the questions that will be asked. And only you can answer them! It’s a personal choice! One that is without judgement on my end. 
If you would not terminate whether the baby has downs or not then there’s no reason to do the amino!
