Skyla IUD

I got the Skyla IUD today! I am writing this for people who don’t know what to expect during an IUD insertion.

I took 800 mg of Ibuprofen about 45 mins before my appointment as directed by my doctor.

They then open up your vaginal canal so they have some room to work in there. The cervix is washed, and Iodine is put on it. This feels kinda cold but doesn’t hurt. Then, they use a device that looks similar to scissors, and open your cervix. This has some slight pinching but isn’t too bad.

They measure your uterus which did cause pain and some pinching. I actually let out a little scream/whimper and clenched the bed. She said that would be the worst part.

Next, the IUD was placed in me. This was just as painful as the measuring part. I let out another scream/whimper and pulled back. Luckily, the IUD was placed correctly, but I had a lot of cramping.

It’s been a few hours now and I have just been taking ibuprofen and using a heating pad to make it more manageable.

So yeah, getting an IUD does hurt from my view, however it is 99.9% effective and works for 3 years. The total insertion lasted about a minute, maybe two. I would do it again, and most likely will get another IUD when the time comes.
