Goal for paying??

Question

What should my husband and I be willing/able to pay each month for rent?
He makes $15.60 an hour and works full-time. He pays for insurance and stuff though so it's about $700-$800 every 2 weeks. 
I make $11.50 at part-time right now. I will hopefully get full-time in a few months. I will bring home about $500 every 2 weeks.

Holy moly! Rent where I live is like a minimum of 900/month and that’s for crappy housing! 1200 if you want anything decent

I think the rule of thumb is that your monthly income should be no less than 3 times your rent.

Me and my partner use an online calculator that you put each persons yearly salary in and the cost of your bills and it divides the bills going off salary

my husband and I actually pay 550 for rent with 2 bedrooms it's 1stf floor and off street parking everything paid but electric.. we live in South central pa
