Lead in stainless steel water bottles

Ma

Just a heads up, in my search for the safest bottle options, I came across a few articles that were written last year about exposed lead in stainless steel water bottles. Most NON- insulated stainless steel water bottles are fine, but if you see a little dimple on the bottom of your water bottle (instead of completely flat) it may have lead.

The Natural Baby Mama has a great article going over the different water bottles with safer options. I’m currently using Pura Kiki non-insulated bottles for my son and they’re safe, but most insulated bottles do have lead soldering on the bottom, whether it’s covered or not. Personally I’d avoid insulated bottles all-together for your child in case they somehow manage to get the cover off the lead, but here are the safe options she mentions:

With some hesitation (because of possible leaking issues) I bought the Pura Kiki non insulated bottles last week to replace my Dr. Browns glass bottles. The amazing thing about Pura Kiki is they have zero plastic parts, unlike Dr. Browns glass which has a plastic vent and a plastic ring to screw the nipple in place. I’m probably more paranoid than most people about toxins from plastic, but so far I’m very pleased with Pura Kiki and they even have sippy spouts, straws, and regular sport caps for their bottles (all made of silicone) so they can grow with your child. Just to note, Pura Kiki was mentioned on the dangerous list for their insulated bottles, but the non insulated bottles contain no lead because there is nothing to be soldered.
