So I’m really scared and could use some advice for those who know things about FAFSA...

So a couple months ago I filed for fafsa and everything went through, and then they asked for my dads W2’s and tax returns and all that so I made copies and sent them to the fafsa office. I get an email today saying that on the online fafsa application it says I put my dads ssn as all 0’s (he’s an immigrant so he doesn’t have a ssn) but on the W2’s it says he does have one! I didn’t even notice it had that. So the email basically told me to change the 0’s to my dads actual ssn like the one on the W2’s. So I go to ask my dad why it has a ssn on the W2’s if he doesn’t have one, and he told me his company gave him that ssn years ago when he first started the job. So it’s a fake ssn basically. I’m scared because I don’t even want to put that ssn number in the system and I’m upset at myself for even sending the W2’s with out even realizing the fake ssn was on there. My dad filed taxes with an ITIN number btw.

So now I don’t know what to do... will we get in trouble? I don’t want anything to happen to us just because I wanted to get money for college. I want to leave the fafsa alone but my boyfriend thinks fafsa will come after us and ask why I didn’t put the ssn in. Can I cancel fafsa or something? I haven’t received any money or anything yet also, I just want to drop fafsa because this is really scaring me. Will fafsa pursue me if I do not answer them..? Can I just drop it? I’m scared out of my mind.
