so i lost my virginity at 16 with someone that was not my boyfriend and ever since then i have continued to be sexually active (i’m turning 18 this year). after i lost my virginity i was talking with my mom and she said to me that she couldn’t imagine her 16 year old daughter being sexually active, and at that point i just couldn’t bear to tell her. but now i’m heading off to college soon and she still thinks i’m a virgin and it’s killing me inside because she just wants what’s best for me but i know that if i tell her now then she’s gonna be extremely mad at me because i’ve had sex with all these guys behind her back. i just don’t know what to do. help. :(

This is kind of a biased answer because I am not super close to my mother and personally wouldn’t tell her when/that I lost my virginity. If you want to tell her than you definitely could. I think she would understand that you were curious and appreciate that you were safe, but if you don’t want to tell her that’s also totally fine. She doesn’t need to know about your sex life and you’re 18 so you are your own person. You could just let her think you are a virgin until she thinks otherwise. If I were you I wouldn’t tell her because I don’t think she needs to know, but it’s up to what you want your mom to know and how close you two are. Good luck!

You should! Having sex comes with a lot of responsibilities, like gynecology check ups, Pap smears, making sure you’re put on the right birth control or using the right condoms. It might helps to tell her, so she can at least talk to you and help you make the appointments. Plus, it would be a big relief, and while it may not seem like it, it will put more trust she has in you. If she found out through another way (say a condom in your room) she’s less likely to trust you, but if you’re honest and tell her, she’ll probably be more accepting.
