When’s a good age to teach self-soothing?

What age was your baby and how did you get him or her to self soothe?

I started helping mine self soothe when he was about 15 months+. Mostly cause we had Another little one on the way.

My 6 week old naturally self soothes and iv been lettering her fuss to encourage it , I only pick her up when it stops being her stirring and becomes crying for a need. She likes access to her hands and for some reason the sound of a rain stick, iv tried other white noise sounds because this particular one drives me nuts but it’s the only one that works.

My son is 18 months and he’s only just began self soothing. We co slept up until a few weeks ago when he used me to soothe him. We tried to do self soothing and sleepingni own bed earlier but he hated it whereas this time he chose it. 
Now he sleeps in his own bed and self soothes through the night if he does wake up! And self soothes to sleep. I couldn’t handle him crying but as he’s older we did a few days of co trolled crying and it took him 3 days to master it!
If you think you and baby are ready then go for it! Before 6 months I don’t think they can self soothe but after that your in control!

Five months. We used the controlled crying method for night wakes and within a week she was sleeping through and has slept through consistently since. She’s twelve months now (:
