Others having an opinion on your wedding

I’ve noticed a common theme of other people criticizing someone else’s wedding plans. I am a very low key person, if I could have it my way I would elope. However my boyfriend has a large Mexican family and a wedding is important which I understand. Well a compromise for us both is having a small, very low key wedding (church then little celebrating in a hacienda or something). He makes about 600,000 a year (he’s a professional athlete so his salary is made public) and I’ve been getting a lot of people assuming he’s being cheap and not letting me spend a lot of money when I explain our plans!!! In reality we both completely agree on smaller plans. People need to realize that a wedding is a special day for the people getting married not for the guests, let them do what they please!!
