How long before you see an allergic reaction to new meds?

My 10 month old was diagnosed with an ear infection today. The pediatrician prescribed amoxicillin, which makes me nervous since our friend’s baby had a severe reaction to it - eyes swollen shut, rash all over his body. I’m also allergic to it as well. How long does it take to notice if your baby is allergic to this medication?

Depends id think on how severe of an allergic reaction a child may have to something. That being said keep in mind that just because you are allergic to it doesn’t necessarily mean your child will be. My fiancé is allergic to amoxicillin and our son also had an ear infection which they prescribed amoxicillin and he was perfectly fine. Just treat it like any other new item you introduce to your child. Anything new you introduce could possibly be something your child is allergic too and is always something you need to keep an eye out for. So I’d say just keep an eye on your LO. If after a day of taking it you don’t notice anything chances are your LO is okay and not allergic to it.

There are a few different types of allergic reactions. It can be from the first time they take the medication. There is even a kind where the first exposure your baby doesn’t have a reaction but the second exposure they do. 
The key is if you notice any swelling take your baby to the Emergency Room immediately!! 
The other things to look out for are rashes I would call the doc first on this but if they don’t pick up or your mama instincts tell you otherwise I would take them to the ER.
