my son hits himself in the head?

hes 16 months old and when he gets in trouble or i say "no". he hits himself in the head. just hits himself over and over and it breaks my heart. so i hold him and kiss him and he stops but it really breaks my heart. why does he do it? im a sahm so it isn't a learned behavior.

the more you coddle the more he will do that. you need to ignore the behavior. don't pay attention to the bad behavior unless you want to deal with it continuing or becoming worse. pay extra attention when he is being good and when he listens.

It’s a way they express frustration, especially if their vocabulary is limited or they are non verbal. My son does the same thing.

my sons used to do it. it is because they don't know how to express themselves very well yet. it is a phase he will eventually grow out of. i just tried to stop it when i saw it try to get them to tell me what Is wrong or tell them not to hit themselves.
