Should tampons be sexualized? Should girls wait til a certain age to use them?

My step daughter is 13. She started her period last year. The other night she came to me and said she had started and didnt have any pads. So i gave her one of my tampons to use while i took a trip to walmart for more pads. I told her dad and he flipped out like i just handed her the tool that lost her virginity. Apparently her mom had told him before she came to live with us that she had been asking her mom to use tampons instead of pads and her mom was also against it. I remember having the same reaction from my parents when i converted to tampons. But now when i think about it i dont understand why. Tampons are for your period. I remember growing up when everything was sexualized and made out to feel dirty and forbidden it made me uncomfortable to the point where now im 28 years old and i enjoy sex but it does take a lot to get me in the mood and i would like to dress more provacotive in everyday life other then my usual jeans and shirt but when i do i feel so uncomfortable thinking everyones looking at me i cant wait to go home and put on my usual stuff. I would like that confidence to not feel awkward to look good and not feel dirty after sex and be more available for my husband for sex. And when this happened i started thinking this may have been the start to where everything is sexualized. Logically it makes sense. I dont think there should be a problem with it. i dont think shes going to fuck the tampon and if she was i dont think it would pop her cherry.
