This is a Tragedy 💔
My 27 year old sister died suddenly March 18th in a car accident.
She had two children, with different fathers.
The day she died the children came with me. I cared for them both to the best of my ability while helping Mom and Dad arrange the funeral.
One child is 9 - the other is 4.
During this time of extreme pain and heartache the children’s fathers were asking for their children. To the point of harassment and public slander. I’m conflicted. I do fully understand that a father is extremely important to a child’s well being. I have a Bachelor’s degree in early intervention and child development.. I understand more than most the factors that go into a child’s well being.
However, I didn’t want them to be separated from each other, and I also didn’t want to let their dad’s take them for the fact that I may not ever see them again.
Both fathers have a criminal records. One father hasn’t been involved in the child’s life for over 7 years. The other child’s father just got out of jail this year and already broke probation. Both father’s filed kid napping charges on me, and after a week I was forced to give the children to their father. My husband and I served both the fathers papers and we are going to court for guardianship on the 18th.
I guess I don’t really know what I am looking for by making this post.. I guess I just need to hear from someone who is unconnected to all of these people. Do I have a chance in court? Am I right for fighting for these children?
