Kirkland diapers vs. Huggies Little Movers! For anyone curious.

I searched and searched for a comparison of the two and could never find one. They are VERY similar but there are a couple notable differences, and reasons why I actually PREFER the Kirkland diapers. They are made by the same manufacturer (Kimberly-Clark) on the same machine, so they are basically the same diaper. Both diapers are size 5.

At first, you will notice that the Huggies diaper is slightly softer to the touch. The Kirkland is still incredibly soft (and I’m very picky about softness). Definitely softer than up & up/parents choice and still feels cloth-like.

Here is one thing I like better about the Kirkland. The front of the diaper is longer on the sides and lays more flat and smooth against my child’s skin. The extra little mesh flap on the huggies tends to bunch up and occasionally leave marks on my child’s hips. They both have the double-grip strips, which is my #1 reason I won’t buy any other diaper for a walking or crawling baby ever again. This is hands-down the best feature of either diaper and the reason I will continue to spend my money on them until my kids are out of diapers.

When the backs of the diapers are compared, you can see that the elastic on the Kirkland actually runs across the entire back of the diaper, while the huggies is only in he center of the diaper. Also, you’ll notice that the blue elastics on the Kirkland diaper are more contoured and not so boxy like the huggies. I believe this leads to a more comfortable fit on my child. You can also see that the actual Velcro tab has wider reinforcement on the blue part, which makes it harder to accidentally rip off (we’ve all done it 🤦🏽‍♀️).

On the inside, you can get a better view of the elastic on the back of the diaper and how the Kirkland is much wider.

It’s hard to see in the picture, but when stretched out, the inside of the diaper has 2 different textures. One is flat and then there is a rectangle of the weave-like texture made for better absorption of urine. On the huggies, that goes up about 1-2” higher in the back (possibly better for girls). The inside of the huggies is also a hair thicker. The gussets seem identical to me.

At Costco, when huggies go on sale for $8 off, they wind up to be cheaper than the Kirkland brand. So that’s why I still purchase huggies. Regularly, the Kirkland is $4 cheaper per box (exact same diaper quantities) at $38.99 per box vs. $42.99 per box for huggies. That’s for the bigger sizes. There’s slightly different pricing for the smaller sizes. Currently, the Kirkland brand is on sale $8 off until April 15th. They rarely go on sale, so now is the time to buy!
