How does unassisted home birth & stitches work?

Question

I want to do home birth but I want stitches if I vaginally rip. What do you do if you need stitches after unassisted birth?
ADDITIONALLY: when I say unassisted birth, I mean no medical professionals (including midwife). There are no widwives that service my home location.

many unassisted births result in no tears. 1st and 2nd degree tears do not need stiches and heal better without them by keeping them clean and legs closed. Manuka honey and seaweed can also be used as a dressing. 3rd and 4th degree tears should be addressed I feel, but not everyone does. If you want stiches you can simply go in, though please note it will probably be easier if someone else keeps baby in the car and brings in for nursing as needed so they don't try to force you to admit them. You can discuss this with your care provider in advance if you are having an assisted pregancy by asking what would happen if you don't make it and baby is born at home.

I can tell you that if you want to do it this way perineal massage works wonders!!!! Do that beforehand and during labor and u will not tear one bit! Speaking from a thin/petite 100lb woman right here 😉 i didn’t tear with both my birthing center births. Both boys were 8+lbs too. The midwives at the center were very, very hands off due to my birth plan. They were there just in case. Loved it. I would do it again and again.

If you do tear, your midwife may be able to stitch you. If not tearing is pretty slim in a birth setting. You WILL heal naturally with no stitches. Applying aloe, witch hazel or coconut oil daily will help heal it. I also heard mommas use seaweed because of its healing properties on cuts, scrapes and burns.

Your midwife would be able to give you stitches and provide any other routine aftercare. I'm sure s/he would probably take their time and do a more thorough job than the hospital staff would.
