How to wean baby off of a bottle

My son will be 1 on April 13th and he still heavily relies on bottles, especially to fall asleep. It’s almost impossible to get him to eat baby food because he’d rather eat a bottle instead. He doesn’t know how to feed himself yet and I’m kind of scared to let him because he might choke ( I’m taking about peas, Cheerios, or just taking bites of stuff.) is this normal? What should i do to help him transition more? Rocking him and feeding him two 8 ounce bottles of milk to get him to sleep is becoming more and more difficult.
