What's your view on police officers?

Question

I want to be a police officer when I finish up school. I first want to work with robberies and as I progress, work in the homicide department.
What's your view on police officers (just curious)?

I think it’s amazing that you want to be a police officer. Much like the military it’s an honor and a sacrifice that I commend you for. Your selflessness is what makes it able for a person like me to walk comfortably on the street. You’re amazing and I wish you the best of luck for this future endeavor

My husband is an officer and I work for a police department doing administrative stuff. It’s a long road to get to robberies and homicide investigations, but if you can stick it out for the first few years, it’s a great career. Be warned though...law enforcement means you’ll be overworked, underpaid, and constantly disrespected. But, it is also a very rewarding career. It isn’t for the faint hearted. Good luck!

My father is a retired police officer. I gained a lot of respect for them after seeing what my father went through. 
He was also know as the ‘cool cop’ so a lot of my friends started liking cops because of him and always asked him (and still do ask him) about a lot of his views on things from what he’s experienced. 
He was also a detective and felt a lot with robbery stuff. It took him a long time to get there, and when he did, he hated it. 
And shortly went back to being a police officer again because he was a lot happier there.

There's going to be assholes in every profession. But my husband is a police officer (as well as a Marine) and I couldn't be more thankful for those choose to put their life on the line.

I support, admire, and appreciate anyone who puts their life at risk for my and society’s safety. They sacrifice more than I could imagine and put themselves at risk everyday they go to work. That’s something that I could never give.

I’m not a fan. That doesn’t mean some of them can’t be good folks, but generally I don’t trust them. They make me uncomfortable and I’d hesitate to call my local PD to my residence. I’ve got a lot of military blood in my family so when I say that I generally find cops increasingly and alarmingly militant I have some idea of what that really means. I’ve had the good fortune to meet some great ones, especially during Geocaching adventures after dark, but I always walk away from an interaction with sweat on my brow, even when I’m not breaking the law. I guess a lot of people will hate what I’m saying but this pov wasn’t being represented here at all.

Both of my parents, my brother, and my husband were all police I would say I love them 😍 
I do have a lot of respect for police officers.
