I’m in Florida until Wednesday and I’m scared to use tampons... do they hurt?

No hey don’t. But once you use them you’re going to be asking yourself why you didn’t do it sooner

Just make sure you put it in properly, and straight(otherwise it will be a little bit of discomfort when you’re walking) but otherwise they do not hurt one bit! And definitely will wonder why you ever even used pads. I can’t even use one after going to tampons, I feel as though it’s too much like a diaper

I agree with Dre! You shouldn't feel a thing once they're are in. I would start with the small ones like the sport kind. I prefer playtex sport in the compact size! You can never go wrong with them!

Tampons CAN hurt, but it really depends. 
For the following reasons:
If you are on a light flow, or your vagina isn’t wet enough, the rubbing of the applicator can cause friction and feel uncomfortable. 
It may also cause pain if you do not push it in deep enough, and it can feel awkward and cause a pinching sensation. 
A way you can avoid these is by :
Making sure you use tampons when your period is the heaviest (this is also a good way to avoid TSS, along with not leaving the tampon in for an excess period of time) 
Relaxing your muscles when you insert the tampon
Making sure you push it in deep enough, and that you are comfortable. 
Make sure you are sitting in a proper position, not standing up.
