what should I expect after having the baby?

after you have the baby and have had some moments with him or her, what happens do they take the baby away to get cleaned up? and how do you get cleaned up yourself ?  with an epidural do you have to wait for it to wear off to have a shower? or does a nurse shower you?

Every hospital is different! I gave birth had baby skin to skin for about an hour then they brought in the scale they weight and measured him, cleaned him up after that they make sure the epidural has worn out and they take me to the bathroom for first pee after peeing they moved me to the recovery room and every tests that baby needs they go and do it in your room baby never left my side! And its up to you if you wanna shower then!

Depends, I delivered baby they put her on me then they asked if I wanted to have her weighed etc, so while they weighed and measured her I was delivering the placenta and they were cleaning me and everything up. And as soon as they were done they gave her back for more skin to skin. Then after an hour or so they moved me to a recovery room, but they never took her out of the same room as me. All the tests and everything were done in the room. As for showering, I just waited until I got home. But that also depends on how you feel and how your delivery went. I also didn’t have an epidural or tearing, so I was constantly up and around because the bed was uncomfortable.

in my experience. I deliver the baby. I cuddle and love on baby for as long as I want then they take the baby to weigh and measure and wipe off. while they do that, I deliver the placenta and they stitch me up if I tore. I nurse the baby and then they take them to the nursery to do some stuff. that's usually about an hour after delivery. I move to a recovery room and I shower and clean myself up. then they bring the baby back.

I had a c section. So my baby was delivered and give to the pediatrician because I had merconium in my fluid so they needed to suction her. She was cleaned and weighed and my husband held her near me. They he took her and waited for me in recovery. After that she never left my side

Definitely depends on hour hospital. My delivery room and recovery room were the same. I had an epidural and was up and showering about an hour after delivery. They never took my baby to the nursery, she was snuggling with dad while I showered, and a nurse did help me.

You should get skin to skin for at least a few minutes unless there's an issue. One of my 3 kids had too much amniotic fluid in his lungs so they had to take him over to the heat lamp in my room and get the fluid out.
Epidural they keep until you deliver the placenta. Once it's shut off, I was up and walking in about 15-20 minutes and yes you can shower if you want to.

I remember doing skin to skin with baby after he was delivered. A couple min after that I remember the placenta just sliding out. Then after skin to skin they weigh him and check vitals, etc. then hand him back while I'm being stitched up. Then they wanted me to get up to go pee but I was hurting so bad they put a catheter in instead & removed it the next day. My son was born close to midnight so I didn't get a shower til a day or so later. It was rough because I was dizzy from my long labor & the blood I lost. A nurse offered to help me shower but I just wanted my privacy. But she did stand outside the door. My hospital only has a nursery for the sick babies. So, baby stays with me the whole time...

I had a c section. They pulled baby out, checked him and plopped him on my chest with hubby helping me hold him as they sewed me up. Then they cleaned him up and gave him to hubby during the last parts of my procedure. After the epidural wore off they nurses helped me to the bathroom to clean up but I kept the catheter in for several hours. They pulled it out but I wasn’t allowed to get the IV out until i peed on my own twice, then I was allowed to shower. Hubby helped me.

I had a c-section. They delivered baby and put him in my arms in less than 10 minutes. I was wheeled to recovery and missed baby for the first time. Wheeled to my room and had to wait 8 hours to be allowed to walk. Time enough for the meds to wear off. Baby was taken to the nursery at the 8 hour mark for his first bath and final testing and I was allowed to shower next day alone.
