1st trimester screening question?

I was curious if the first trimester screening is optional? If so does insurance pay for it? Thanks for any advice ?

The NT scam is covered by most if not all insurances. That is the one where they measure the amount of fluid present in the nuchal fold. They will also do a finger prick test. These tests measure the likelihood of abnormalities. But do not confirm/rule them out. If any red flags pop up, they will talk to you about further testing options. Some clinics will also tell you gender from this scan. My doc says they predict gender with 95% accuracy.
The NIPT testing is different. It draws baby’s genetic information from your blood. It is a relatively new test and is expensive. Most insurances do not cover it unless you are a candidate based off of very specific requirements (age, for example). This test can also tell you gender since it gets the information from the genetic material. It’s a very cool sounding test. That’s what a lot of women on here are talking about when they say they are waiting on their gender results.
There are also further screening tests that can be done for cystic fibrosis, and any other conditions whose likelihood are influenced by your race/ethnicity/background/etc. (such as sickle cell, or Tay-Sachs). I believe this is all blood testing. 
As far as my doctor says, all screening is optional. You can choose what tests you want to have done. Some people just don’t care to know because for them, it doesn’t matter. For some people, it’s very important and would make a difference. It’s all about what the parent(s) want and your doctor is there to support you through the process, whatever you decide.

Yeah it’s for the first trimester screening. I will call my insurance and find out.

I am having the nuchal translucency screening. I called my insurance to make sure they cover it and they do. It’s best just to call and ask! I was told they run $425 where I’m at.

Are you talking about the one for downs and trisomy 18&21 plus the ultrasound for the neural tube??
