When the evening comes, it is normal for the baby to be in need of closeness, calm and close contact with the parents. There is a lot going on during the day, with many sensory impressions like light, sound and activity. It is natural that the baby needs to calm down when the day goes towards the end.
Many mothers experience that there is less milk in the evening, although research does not confirm this. The experience of less milk may be because the milk is not flowing as fast and powerful as earlier in the day. The mum may also be tired or stressed and may affect the let down reflex. It usually happens that the child will nurse often, almost continuously throughout the evening. At the same time, when the baby gets to nurse so often, it is regularly replenished with breast milk. Are you lucky, this frequent breastfeeding can cause your child to have a longer sleep period at night. Either way, this behavior could help the child find peace and security while getting the food it needs.
Babies who only get formula, or have both breast and formula are also fussy/uneasy in the evening.
If the child otherwise eats well, has good sleep periods and otherwise seems to thrive, there is no need to worry.
Avoid using formula
It may feel like you do not have enough milk for the child when it is so fussy/uneasy in the evening. The child nurse, sucks, draws and drops the chest - then starts again. This may be the case, but there is milk there and it can help to change the breast every time the child becomes uneasy. In this way you can stimulate more frequent let downs.
Providing formula at this time may seem against its purpose. Your body will perceive it as unnecessary to produce as much as no milk is taken from the breast, which can lead to lower milk production and more chest distress. The child can also get used to getting milk faster and in larger amounts - and it will then be able to reject the breast when the milk does not come soon enough. It is therefore important to let the child have the chance to communicate with your body about how much milk is needed.
This might help:
Sit comfortably on the couch, with everything you need within reach. Have the child lie with you, preferably skin to skin. Turn down the sound on the TV / radio, dim the lighting and have minimal stimulus in the surroundings. The child can nurse, fall asleep and nurse. It can be difficult when the child is fussy, but breathe deeply and try to let the calm fall over you. Like stress, tranquility is also contagious.
The baby can also be breastfeed in a carrier. Some children are more calm while moving, so nursing is easier.
Music, singing and dancing can be soothing for the child.
Baby massage can also have a calming effect. Use baby oil and stand in a warm room with soft lighting.
The child can also enjoy a little trip into a stroller(if you have a bassinet for your stroller)

yep and i feel like it’s his gas i will sit there and burp him for 10 15 mins with no burps. it’ll take him a lil bit to fall back asleep but once he’s sleeping he’ll sleep til his next feeding but it’s like once daylight hits he’s out like a light.

every night. I've looked it up and apparently it's normal for them to cluster feed between about 6-10pm. I've been lucky if I can get mine to sleep at all after 8 the last two nights though 😭😴
