Is there a girl code?

Ok! So I have a dilemma! My husband and I are expecting our second baby in November! We find out the gender in May. We been planning names since we found out! The names we have are Preston or Madelyn Jean. So my sister in law hears our girl name and got really upset because that's "her baby name" for when they have kids! (I've never heard her say that name before.. I've only heard her boy name which is Cooper. She has been trying to get pregnant for a while now (5+) years and apparently reserved those names! So I kinda sympathize with her and went with the back up of Ava Grace! Then my brothers fiancé who won't start to have kids till their 30 (they're both 21) said Ava Grace is similar to "her baby name" Avery Claire! 
So now I'm just plain upset because I understand wanting a name, but my sis in law on my hubby side took our baby name and wasn't the least bit mad! She was pregnant first so she got the name! 
Like I fell in love with Madelyn, and my brothers wife got really nasty angry with me saying " I guess we just have to rethink everything we planned for the last 10 years!" 
So who's in the right? I know never to take cooper, but I never knew of her wanting Madelyn!!!

you are the one expecting and if you and your husband like a certain name pick it and name the child that. they aren't pregnant and it's y'alls child. don't feel guilty

A name is a name and no one owns them! Name your baby whatever you want. This whole girl code thing is a made up, juvenile concept.

Girl, don’t tell your baby name til baby is here- that way they can’t get mad at you! 😜 the family member that has been trying for 5+ years is one I totally sympathize with so I might potentially avoid that name but the other one?!? It’s not even close to that name so I’d stick with your choice!!
I’ve only told my parents and brother our baby’s name. My cousins are going crazy cuz I won’t tell them 🤣 I told them I’d get them the initials in time to have items monogrammed. But mostly it’s because I don’t care to hear other people’s opinion on the name!

You're pregnant, they're not. Name the baby whatever you want to. Unless the name was really important to them because it was for a deceased family member or something, they need to get over it. Even then, it's not like they can't use the name anymore. There are plenty of kids on the planet with the same name. You can't "claim" a baby name for a child who doesn't even exist and then throw a fit when someone who's actually pregnant else uses it. I just wouldn't share with them what the baby's name is going to be until she's born. Do whatever makes you happy. They'll get over it and if they don't, that's their (very petty) problem.

Girl name your daughter whatever you want. My brother and I were talking about girl names and my daughters name will be Elizabeth and he wanted to use that as a middle name for his daughter. I was upset for a minute but the name means something to both of us. You’re pregnant now and are actually having a daughter. They could get pregnant and have. Boy and then you didn’t name your daughter the name you wanted all because they might have a girl. And for the second sister in law the names aren’t ever close 🤦🏻‍♀️

Similar situation happened with my first, every name I picked my cousin wanted the same so in the end I kept the final name between me and my husband and didn’t reveal until she was born! I’d just name the baby whatever you want, at the end of the day she can reserve the name for her daughter and then she could have a boy! Just do what makes you happy but to save stress I would keep the name secret from now on xx

I got upset because my friend is having a little girl 4 weeks before me and announced they will be naming their daughter the exact same name my husband and I picked out. I decided I don’t care. I’m still naming her the name we picked. I grew up with one of the most common names ever and it was always okay.  Name her what YOU and your husband want to! They will get over it.

My older sister who can’t get pregnant naturally and has paid for many failed procedures wants a baby so bad. She only has two girl embryos left and has names picked out for them. I didn’t know that until I recently told her my plans for if it’s a girl . I was so scared to tell her because this is my 3rd and she still hasn’t got to have any yet. She was actually really happy for me. But when I told her the name I wanted she told me she had picked that name already. I wanted Liah. But she picked analiah. I’m looking for a new name and think I already found it. I couldn’t do that to her. She’s been going threw procedures every other year for like 5 yrs
