I’ve liked my best friend for 3 years...?!!

Question

Basically, my best friend and I are seniors in high school. I’ve liked him since the beginning of sophomore year which is when we started to get SUPER close as friends. We’ve never been closer than we are now. No one can make me laugh harder than him.

I’ve always wanted to go for it with him,  since he seems like he could be into it?? But he’s also naturally the flirty type without trying so it’s hard to tell if he likes me back and I’ve always had this nagging feeling he likes my other best friend, even though she says he’s basically her brother and would never go for it. He also isn’t the type to initiate a relationship or date someone if what he has is comfortable.

However, prom is next Saturday and the people I’ve talked to about it are like just ask him as friends! Or ask him out! We’re going separate ways for College so we only have a possible four and a half months to be TOGETHER together. I don’t know if it’s worth ruining one of the best friendships I’ve ever had or I should just grow some fucking balls, ditch the anxiety, and go for it.

!!I’ll take any and all advice!!

(Also, if it says anything for how much I like him, I dated someone for two months last year and had to end it because liking this main guy in the background was too distracting and unfair for this other guy.)

Ok girl, I understand what you are going through because my best guy friend liked me for 3 years and recently asked me out on the 14 of march but it wouldn't have happened if I didn't show him I was interested first because he didn't want to get curved. But girl you only got 4 months left of high school and then you guys are going your separate ways so girl be bold and tell him straight up.....or if your not the bold type like me then like feel him out like think about how he has acted with his other relationships he has had with other girls and see how he acts towards you and see, maybe ask other friends that see you together if he acts any type of way toward you that you might not notice because your in your head thinking about How much you like him.

Also think about it like this either he doesn't like you like that and you only have to put up with the weirdness for 4 months and thats it or he does like you but you only have 4 months to have a good relationship and then you have to go separate ways but you could also try long distance if you think you guys can handle that but if not and you guys break up then either way after 4 months it's like you are starting a new period in your that he probably won't be in so I suggest be bold and take a risk but it's up to you
