Christening for godparents?

Hey all. So my husband and I recently asked our friends to be the godparents of our son that will be arriving in June. Theyre catholic, my husband is burmese buddhist and im agnostic. But while our friends grandparents were visiting they asked us if we were going to be christening our son, I tried to explain that I wasnt sure because thats not mine or my families faith. 
But im wondering for those of you who has christened a child, should I or am I supposed to? Our friends havent said anything about it but im just curious.

That decision is up to you. Our daughter is being christened (or dedicated) next month, but that's our personal preference. My husband and I (along with both our families) are Baptist so the decision was not hard to make. And I'm not sure how it works at other churches, but you have to be a member of our church in order for your child to be christened. Like I said, this is how it is at the church we attend. It may be different at other churches. So check into that as well. Honestly, if it's not apart of your religion, you do not really have to do it.

You don't have to.. Usually people have the christening ceremony though. I personally might do a christening, however I don't like the idea of god parents.

I don’t think you’re able to have a ‘christening’ as such unless you attend or are otherwise associated with a church/religion? My SIL and her husband are non-practising Catholics and had to go to church, talk to the priest etc in order to get their son christened at the church. 
My sister is not religious and had an informal ‘naming ceremony’ type event for her daughter, where people were nominated as ‘guide parents’. I think this kind of event is good for people who are not religious but still want to celebrate the child’s birth and recognise people who will be important in the child’s life.

It's 100% your choice. My husband's family is Christian and mine is Catholic but neither one of us are religious in any way. We didn't christen our daughter and it definitely upset my grandmother a lot. But at the end of the day, it's not my grandmother's choice. And we also didn't feel it was our place to choose our daughter's religion either. She will learn about the various religions as she grows up and if she chooses to be christened later on in life then we fully support that. But I wasn't going to do it just because my grandparents wanted us to.
